I'm still cold!!

We had a great afternoon/evening flight today. It was Travis, Scott, Chris, Terry and me as pilots, and Chris brought his Aunt, two cousins, and his mother.

Chris stayed fairly close to the field giving his family rides. Scott, Travis, and I headed to the East. Travis saw several police cars on his drive to the field, but didn't see why they were there. It turned out to be a pickup that crashed off of the bridge!

We then headed toward Lake Pflugerville. Scott turned back, Travis and I continued to Bird's Nest Airport where Travis did a few touch-n-goes and I attempted one (don't ask). Bird's Nest was once a quiet dying airport with a few planes left. Now all of the old hangers have been torn down, the terminal has been refurbished, and they're building a nice new cross-runway.
On the way back, I flew to 5,000 feet so I could have a nice long flight without the engine on. My hands still hurt from getting so cold!! It was so clear that I could see Lake Travis, Lake Granger, Lake Georgetown, and even Lake Buchanan at the same time.

It was another great day for flying, which is good because the bad weather is coming next week.

I finally got a good shot of the carnival.

Travis said something about flying high, but this is ridiculous.

The police and a wrecker.

War of the Worlds

Bird's Nest - You can see the new large runway going across the photos and what's left of the old one going up and down.

Hey, Look at the Balloons!

Okay, so my intent was to go watch Scott fly this morning and maybe get a few good shots of him. But, like the little kid I am, I got distracted by the balloons. Pretty balloons....

I intended to get shots of them taking off, but that just wasn't good enough. I found myself chasing them through the country. The strange part is they took off in one location we fly from (Old Settler's Park) and ended up in our other location (Taylor Airport). It was fun trying to determine their path and get setup for the photos. I hope you enjoy!

Don't forget to click on the photo to see it larger.

Afternoon Flight at OSP

Travis, Alt, and I showed up to OSP about the same time yesterday. I was first in the air and since the wind was from the North, I headed that way. Alt was next into the air, but he stayed around the field, shooting video. He said he got right behind Travis and got video of him taking off, but he's not confident it will come out.

Travis and I flew North and East. I flew down the runway at Cross Country Estates where we're planning on flying with the balloons next weekend.

On the way back, we flew by Travis's house and he waved as his family stayed inside and watched TV! We're always worried about how noisy we are, but I've now attempted to get 3 different people to come out and wave and none of them heard me! Guess we're sneaky that way.

As we came in for a landing, I tried to get some photos of a carnival that looks to be struggling. Most of the people there were looking up at us.

We did a few T-N-Gs and packed up for the night. Nice, perfect flight! We're planning on going up again this afternoon.

Cow Shadows

The shadows get long this time of day!

This is Cross Country Estates

The trees are changing.

No, not snow! Hard, hard, rocks.

Notice the white birds flying down the river.

I had to work to get this shot. I love the color.

That's all for now.
